Prostate cancer is one of the leading causes of both mortality and morbidity in male population worldwide. External beam radiation therapy and extensive surgery with the excision of the whole prostatic tissue alongside with the seminal vesicles and extensive lymphadenectomy were considered the only curative alternatives for the patient.
Prostate Cancer Screening: A Valuable Tool
Nowadays with the gain obtained from new ce inseamna operatie de prostata mapping techniques of the prostate brachytherapy has proven to be as efficient as the other two treatment options, combining the effect of radiotherapy with the advantages of a minimal invasive procedure.
This article represents a mini-review of the literature regarding brachytherapy for organ confined prostate adenocarcinoma, its principles, indications and outcomes. Even if it prostate cancer tool forgotten for a long time, brachytherapy stands today as a real alternative for patients diagnosed with localized prostate adenocarcinoma being a less invasive procedure than surgery and showing excellent outcomes and long term cancer free patients.
